CHESTNUTS PROJECT

In May 2004, Lama Gangchen Rimpoche suggested that we should make use of the chestnuts that fall from the trees around the Centre. So we went to learn how to make chestnut cream in France. In Octobre 2005 we gathered 300 kilos of chestnuts and made 800 pots of cream. Lama Gangchen blessed our produce and named the project:

LÜ-SO SEM TSE, “substance for regenerating body and mind”

In October 2006, we produced 800 pots of cream in a new room which Margherita Manzino lent to us.

In 2007, we transformed the room into a professional laboratory which was then certified by the Hygiene Authority (ASL). We officially established the Azienda Agricola LÜ-SO and produced 2000 pots.

In 2008, the chestnuts gathered at the Centre obtained the BIO (organic) Certification and we produced 1640 pots of cream.

In 2009, our chestnut cream was granted the BIO Certification. All the ingredients are organic (chestnuts, cane sugar, vanilla).

We have started to clear some land belonging to the Centre to plant new varieties of chestnut trees.

Summary of the number of pots that we have produced and donations to the Centre:

2005: 800 pots and 650 Euros donated to the Centre
2006: 800 pots and 680 Euros donated to the Centre
2007: 2000 pots and 1500 Euros donated to the Centre
2008: 1650 pots and the donation has not yet been made.

All our profits are re-invested in the business.

This project allows us to contribute to revitalizing the village of Albagnano by developing the local economy, to tend the Centre’s land and plant new trees.

Summing up:

We have joined the organic produce organisation BIO (Associazione BioAgricoltura Verbano-Cusio-Ossola) which groups together local farms.

We sell our produce at BIO markets in the area and also at cultural and agricultural fairs.

The local Piemont television has interviewed us about the activities of LÜ-SO.
