Good farmers know that sowing arid land gives a bad harvest, so they take great care to make it fertile and not pollute it, to reap abundant, good quality crops.
Families, schools, lay or religious institutions represent the land on which society grows its seeds, its children. We should reflect carefully before condemning youngsters who deal in drugs, steal or even kill for money because they are nothing but the harvest resulting from an arid, polluted, poor land.
Each one of us is responsible for our behaviour. It reflects on our children, at home and in society. Children need points of reference for their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. They are like sponges, learning through imitation, and what they absorb will become an integral part of their character.
So it is extremely important to give children positive examples and values to help them develop their personalities harmoniously. As they grow, we must help them to develop wise understanding so they can make good choices in every area of their lives as freely as possible.
For many years, Lama Gangchen Rinpoche has been lovingly and with great energy promoting non formal education with the aim to establish a true peace culture, just like a good farmer.
Through Self Healing for Children, Rinpoche makes the land healthy and fertile so that children, just like little seeds, he likes to say, can grow and blossom like so many lotus flowers. I remember that my university studies in pedagogics included texts by lay, catholic and jewish authors, so I am not at all surprised by the fact that a Tibetan Lama is involved in childrens' education and has published audio cassettes, DVDs and books especially for that audience. Above all, for me, Lama Gangchen is one of those rare Beings of any race or religion who appear on this planet wanting to take on the arduous task of helping us, poor sleepwalkers, to wake up as quickly as possible.
Children learn through Self Healing to grow up with greater awareness, which helps to make the right choices, not only in their private life but in every field: economic, political, social and environmental choices. A child who practices Self Healing will develop better awareness and will grow up to be less of a sleepwalker and more wise - this is the great work of Lama Gangchen, sowing awareness so that future generations can harvest Wisdom, the indispensable quality for building a true world of Peace.
